  • Review – Nails Inc. Queen Vic..

    nails-inc-queen-victoria-street

The other week on a lunch break I went on a bit of a pamper spree in House Of Fraser Nottingham. I had my eyebrows threaded and then wandered over to the Nails Inc. counter, I was a bit dubious to wether they’d be able to fit me in, I’ve been turned away before because I didn’t have an appointment, but I was in luck, they were completely free.

I was going out that evening and having looked at my gross chipped nail polish I thought I could do with a file and polish. After much debate I ended up going for one of their new colours and going a little bit bold, I wasn’t sure what I was going to wear so there was no restraints.

I ended up choosing this colour, Queen Victoria Street. In real life its a vibrant emerald green colour but on the image its coming out more grey & turquoise toned. Although looking closely maybe this is because of the top coat and the image is more like the true colour. You have to see it in real life to appreciate the colour. Now I’m not sure if it’s the top coat she used to finish off the manicure or if it’s the nail varnish its self but that picture was taken on day four and it’s worn so well. there’s only a few chips on the main fingers like my right index finger and on my thumbs. The rest have a few light scuffs on them but no one would know unless they had their faces up to my hands.

I’m super happy with this polish and it’s a good shade for any season I think. It applied opaque after one coat but the woman applied two coats just to properly cover the nails.

I jazzed it up a bit by adding their green glitter polish to my ring fingers as an accent nail.

  • Review – Models Own 5 Piece B..

    models-own-brush-set

A couple of weeks ago after a lot of hype from other bloggers I went into boots and treated myself to yet another set of brushes. Now, it is questionable if I did actually need this set, but to me, what was drawing me towards them was the blending brush. With the promise of great blending for small eyes I was sold. I’m forever battling with my MAC 217 blending the product all over my eye so I thought this might be the answer.

In the set you get a powder brush, angled brush, blending brush and a lip brush. They’re travel sized and perfect for having some of the essentials you may need. Although they are travel sized I feel like they’re still a great size for everyday use.  They only come in this obscene neon orange colour which doesn’t bother me because I love it, but it is massively in your face, they look bright in the image above but they are just as, if not brighter in real life.

I’ve been using the powder brush and the angled brush the most actually. I use the powder for blusher, it picks up a good amount of product and blends it in nicely. The angled brush I have been using to fill in my eyebrows with powder because its small and sturdy enough to draw in the little strokes to look like small hairs. I have used the lip brush the least but I have used it for really bright lipsticks that I struggle to apply straight from the bullet into the corners of my mouth, it just keeps it tidy and not all over my face.

They’re not great to spot clean, although they are clean they don’t look it, the white turns a dark colour if that’s what you’ve used the brush to apply which isn’t attractive. But I have deep cleaned them and they have come up perfectly white again, good as new. I had no issues with hair loss and because of their size they are some of the fastest drying brushes, taking only about 2/3 hours to dry.

I’m really glad I went with the hype of these brushes, I’m super happy with them and can’t complain about anything.

  • Lose & Shape Up – Week 8..

    weightloss

Hello, it’s another update from Lose & Shape up! ‘ll keep this one super quick.

After the previous week I was a little bit apprehensive about how this session would go. I prepared myself by eating an apple before I left work and I also ate a bag of grapes on the bus on the way to the gym. I still had a little bit of a bad turn but it wasn’t nearly as bad as the previous week. I think this time it was lack of water over the day, so maybe I’ll combine the two and see how that helps next week.

The workout session was actually taken by someone else who works a the gym that specialises in Biomechanics. He also turns out to be a lad that I went to school with (it’s a small world). The initial workout part wasn’t too different from any other session, it was still circuits but then at the end he gave us a taster of what to expect with Biomechanics and what you do if you book a session with him. It was really interesting and I plan on booking a session once I move back home and have less on my mind.

Then onto the weigh in, it wasn’t a very great talk for that week, I think it was just about portion control and making sure you don’t eat too much of things, because sometimes even if what you’re eating is good, it can still be too much for you and it will limit the weight loss process. My weight ended up being .2 back on! I’m so annoyed, but still, I’m honestly not giving it my 110% so what do I expect?!

Have any of you got any tips for keeping me motivated and any lunch time meal plans, I honestly think it’s lunch that’s my biggest downfall. Let me know!

I say week 8 & 9 but I was poorly yet again so missed last weeks session. It really is the last push from now, only three weeks left. As long as I’m less than what I started with I will be happy.

  • Bright Eyeshadows – The Debat..

    body-shop-fresh-pink

On Sunday I saw Sammie tweet about wanting to try out bright eye looks…

    twitter-sammie

A few days ago on Instagram I had also asked the question if the above Body Shop eyeshadow look that a girl at work gave to me because she thought of me and my blog when she saw it, was suitable for day to day or if it was just sort of like show makeup. I just wanted to open it up on here and see what peoples thoughts are.

Would you like me to do a few blog posts trying out different looks with colours that I could wear day to day?

Just a quick post but just wanted to know and thought it would be fun to make a challenge out of it.

If you wear colourful eyeshadows in the day then I’d love to see them so send me links etc.

  • IMATS Tag

    imats

In excited preparation for IMATS this weekend I thought I’d steal this tag off Joanna and do it myself :).

    Which IMATS are you attending?

The London 22nd-23rd June 2013 one.

Have you ever been to IMATS before?

No, this will be my first ever time at IMATS, I’d never heard of it till last year but then this year I thought I’d bite the bullet and go down and see what all the fuss is about ;).

    How are you getting there?

I’m travelling by train from Nottingham, stupidly early but not as stupidly early as it could be!

    Are you bringing anyone along?

Nope, I’m going all by my lonesome but hoping to bump into people so I wont be a lemon the whole time! haha.

Is there anything else in the IMATS host city that you want to see?

Well there’s of course all the shopping to be done in London, then also on a personal level I’m looking forward to seeing my sisters new flat in London that she’s just moved into!

What days will you be in the city that IMATS is in?

I will be at both days, I’m still on the fence about whether it’ll be worth it going to both days but obviously I’ll learn from this years for if I decide to go the following year.

Who do you want to meet there?

I’d love to see people I have met through blogging like Joanna, Ray and Tor. And also some other people I follow and have spoken to over the tinterwebs.

What companies exhibits are you most excited to see?

A lot of the well known companies (listed below) but obviously it’d be great to learn about some new companies while I’m there.

    Crown Brush U.K

    MAC

    NARS

    NYX

    Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics

    Royal & Langnickel Brush Mfg.

What products are you looking for?

I’m hoping to get a few discounted MAC brushes (if they even do them?), but I’m not really going for anything in particular, just see what stands out to me at the time.

How much do you plan to spend?

I have a bit of birthday money left from April and probably a bit more so maybe like £200 but of course I could spend WAY more than that if I had the money, but I think I need to control myself and only get the few things I have my eye on.

What do you want to get out of IMATS?

Just the experience of going to IMATS that everyone raves on about and obviously meeting people that share the love of makeup that I do.

Let me know if you’re going to IMATS too!

  • Wishing And Wanting And Wearing.

    wish-want-wear

Dress – Melon mini by Milly  / Shoes – Aldo

A couple of Fridays ago I went to a  colleagues wedding and I was struck with the thought that almost all girls have when it comes to special occasions “I have nothing to wear!!!”

I trawled through my wardrobe and there honestly wasn’t anything that was appropriate or that I haven’t worn to big occasions that people from work haven’t already seen. That was when I remembered a website I’d heard about in the bloggersphere and quite a few big bloggers have talked about before. That said website was Wish Want Wear, a online dress rental service. They offer a whole range of different designer dresses at a smidgen of the price to rent so you get to feel amazing in an awesome dress but without spending ££’s on a dress you’ll have limited wear out of. There’s quite a lot of choice on there, I’m sure there’s something for everyone. As well as dresses, these accessories like hats, jewellery and handbags. Brands on there that you might recognise are Alice by Temperly, Badgley Mischka, Hervé Léger and sass & bide. You can also define your search by what occasion you want the dress/accessories for.

Onto the dress I ended up choosing, after um-ing and ah-ing over a handful I ended up choosing the Melon Mini. I think in the end it was the detail on the back and the flattering peplum that sold it to me, and the really cool colours which I thought stood out. I got so many compliments on the back of the dress with a lot of people saying it looked like butterfly wings. I felt great in it! I wore it with some black sweude high heels from Aldo I’ve had for years, they’re the comfiest heels I own (but they still came off at the end of the night). I was in such a rush to get ready I forgot to put any jewellery on but I think that makes the dress more of the main focus.

I rented it for 4 days which was £65 but you can hire it for a longer 12 days at an extra cost  if you need to, although I’m not sure why you would need it for that long, maybe if you were taking it away somewhere. The process is so super easy and I had no problems other than a phone call from a really lovely girl that works there the morning I was supposed to receive it the day before the wedding saying they were having issues with the delivery company so the dress would arrive the next day between 9-6, I was a little bit worried but in the end the dress came just after 9 in the morning so I wasn’t bothered because I had the dress for the evening. They also throw in the same dress in an alternate size for no extra cost just in case you were worried one might not fit, which I thought was an amazing idea. All you have to do is throw the dresses in the returns bag provided and send it off at your local post office as free recorded delivery.

As well as the dress I received a free gift that I wasn’t expecting, this was a pretty costume ring and a small bottle of dry shampoo.

    wishwantwear-free

All in all I was really happy with this service and I would recommend it to anyone, in fact, since hiring the dress, I’ve told almost everyone I know about the service and I will definitely be looking here again for other occasions.

  • Lose & Shape Up Week 7

    weightloss

Heya, I’m so sorry that all that’s been on my blog recently has been these Lose & Shape up posts, I hope you don’t mind and I also hope that some of you have been spurred on by some of them. I’ll try and keep them as spread out as possible (one a week), but I’m afraid week 7 & 8 are going to be close together. I’ll announce the winners of my giveaway tomorrow I promise, so at least that splits up the posts a little bit.

    I digress…

So week 7. Same idea, circuit training to start with. There was a serious lack of people last week but I don’t know if it was because people have quit or it’s just because it’s holiday season as of now. I don’t know what happened but I reverted back to how I was the first week and almost passed out completely, like ended up legs in the air, wet towel on my face situation. I think it was a combination of how hot it was on the tennis courts with the fact I’d not had anything to eat since lunchtime. I will definitely be eating about an hour before the gym this week.

Up until then I thought I was doing really well!

Afterwards while I was calming down we went to the weigh in room which was so much cooler so I felt a lot better for that. Turns out that I’ve lost yet another 0.2 lbs, slowly but surely. I can’t complain because I’ve been completely off the bandwagon, eating too much, too much rubbish, drinking fizzy drinks. Just all round not good, so I’m happy with that loss and I’m hoping that if I can sort out my eating this week then next week it’ll be at least a 1lb.

Week 7’s “lesson” was about how you can boost your metabolism with 5 meals a day. Cut short, if you , eat three 40/30/30 (Protein/Carbs/Good Fats) meals and two snacks a day approximately every three hours, your body will burn an extra 350 kcal. Over 10 days this will equate to burning an extra 3500 kcal which is equivalent to 1lb of fat. I know it doesn’t sound like too much but for me I think 1lb every 10 days would be awesome!

So this has been way longer than it needed to be. Hope you’re all well & I’ll see you back here tomorrow to announce the winners of my giveaway!

  • Lose & Shape Up Week 6

    weightloss

We’re at the half way point.

You could really tell that people  weren’t looking forward to this one after the long weekend. From the stories we shared I think we’d all over indulged when it comes to food and alcohol. Although I’d managed to stay away from the alcohol I had definitely over done it with food, having had an Indian, Sunday dinner and a pizza hut on the three days running up to the Tuesday session.

Again we mixed it up a little bit when it came to the gym session, we did it in pairs and it was along the circuits line but in between each activity there were boxing gloves and pads so we took it in turns to do the punching. It did feel like a really good work out and afterwards I was pooped!

Then again we went to the other room and had our weigh ins. Despite being very pessimistic I actually lost .2 lbs, another time i’ve lost barely anything, but it’s better than putting anything on.

I’m still really lacking motivation but I know that now is the time to really push myself because I only have the same amount of time again to lose the last 4lbs that I want to!
