  • FloridaTix Birthday Event – #..

Last week I was invited to attend the #FloridaTix1oth event in Birmingham. The event, as you might have guessed from the name of it was to celebrate the company FloridaTix’s 10th anniversary of business.

The event was held at Island Bar near the Mailbox in the centre of Birmingham and all evening I had the Disney song “Tiki Room” stuck on repeat in my head, because it was, a tiki room, it was like going to a bar on holiday, I absolutely loved the decorations.

When I got there I was welcomed by Cindy who had got in touch about the event and she introduced me to a selection of the others that were already there which was lovely seeing as I had gone on my own and didn’t really know anyone. We had an opportunity to mingle and get to know one another and grab a drink from the bar. As I was driving I had a non-alcoholic beverage but it still looked just as awesome as one of their cocktails as it came in a mason jar glass.

Having got settled we were then drawn together to attempt a #supersnapeselfie with all of us there including the FloridaTix employees who were in on the fun too, as a homage to the Oscars selfie.

We then had the chance to wizz around the room to find the “hidden mickeys” a game that you can enjoy whilst in Disney parks which I thought was great fun and bought out the inner child in me. I managed to find them all which I was rather proud of too.

We were then given a talk about the company by Simon one of the Directors at FloridaTix and told about how and when it had started and what it is that they do.

Following on from that was the official cake cutting ceremony which seemed a shame because it was awesome! They called it a “cake boss” cake and it sure was, a lot of skill went into it I’m sure. It did taste as good as it looked too.

Having filled ourselves up on cake and buffet food we were then set for the main event. The quiz.

I was in a team with Chris and Joy and we’d already set our sights on the booby prize of the stickers but there were awesome prizes up for grabs for the winners. I’m not going to lie, the quiz was pretty hard, I didn’t know nearly as much as I thought I did about Universal and Disney, I did however know more about Florida itself which was quite nice, I think we redeemed a few points there and again on the music round, although that was pretty hard too!

In the end, we came last but we still had a good time and a laugh whilst playing along. Plus it wasn’t likely that we would win anyway because there were some real hardcore Disney fans there who did extremely well.

After the quiz we had a bit longer to chat and people started to disperse on their journeys home.

We were lucky enough to be treated to a pretty amazing goodie bag too which had all sorts of treasures in it from Disney, Universal and Busch Gardens all of which will get you started for a trip to any of the parks.

I had a wonderful time and I am grateful for being invited to the event. I was also a very lucky girl by winning a prize for finding all the hidden Mickeys and also for having the best Snape selfie!

I want to thank Cindy for organising the event and the rest of the FloridaTix team for helping make the event so much fun. I look forward to the next one! ;).

  • #Nottsmeetsep14 – 20.09.2014

This post has been a LOOONNNGGGG time coming.

During September I had a wonderful opportunity to go to a local meetup. I feel like I’ve not been to one for ages!

This one was run by Leah & Gemma both whom I have met before at previous events/meetups.  It was also great to see other girls that I’ve met before and get to speak to them at least a little bit during the day.

The meetup was held at Sobar, an alcohol free bar and restaurant that also helps recovering addicts by giving them a place to work and get experience and help that they may not do otherwise.

We were a few minutes late getting there but as we did they were prepared and were already bringing food out. I had the pulled pork pizza which was so yummy, it was a perfect size just for a mid day meal, not a huge pizza that you then don’t need food for the rest of the day. After food there was chance to chat to Amber who also joined us on the table and say hello to other girls that I’ve previously met at other meetups.

Having paid for our food we headed upstairs to a private room that I presume they use for meetings with addicts we were sat around a table and given a Talk from Suzie from Xenca which was really interesting. She gave us a presentation on all the products and an in depth explanation of the company and then followed up with a tester of all of the Perfection makeup range and the supplements that help your well being from the inside out along with the skincare range. Afterwards we were all treated to the choice of makeup product from the brand, I picked the Mink eyeshadow.

Once we’d had a play around with the products we had a raffle where the money raised was going towards Schools For Parents. I was super lucky enough to win three prizes! It was my very lucky day.

  • Pizza Party Tuesday Night – #..

Let me just start by saying that my love of sour dough pizza stems from my trip to Boudin whilst in San Francisco.

A couple of weeks ago I attended the #BloggerPeterParty hosted by the always lovely Annie at the newly opened Peters Pizzeria in Leicester.

Peters Pizzeria opened its first restaurant in Loughborough which I have spotted before but have never got round to visiting (which I will be doing now).

I have to tell you, Peters Pizzeria in Leicester is absolutely awesome from the second you walk in. The toilets are in individual sheds for goodness sake!

I’m an absolute sucker for interiors of restaurants and I’m a massive fan of how cool the inside looks and fortunately most new restaurants are ticking my boxes and Peters Pizzeria is one of them.

    Peters Pizzeria InteriorsPeter Pizzeria Toilet

This meetup was a breath of fresh air, it was after work on a Tuesday and it felt like you were just meeting up with friends for a meal, except there were about 25+ of us there.

It was lovely to see faces I recognised and to meet new people too. It was also really nice to just sit and talk to people from brands because they were sat as part of the meet up rather than purely there for brand purposes.

Food wise we were treated to a selection of pizzas off the menu, I’m a picky eater so stuck with the margherita pizza which was ah-mazing! And as far as I could gather the others were pretty tasty too, not a bad word said so I think that’s a win. To make things even better we were also shown the delights of their ‘Peterella’ which is a sour dough pizza base smothered in nutella which I have to say is heavenly! who doesn’t love things covered in chocolate!

I ended up having a really good evening and it was great to meet new people and some new brands and businesses.

A massive thanks to Peters Pizzeria for letting us use their facilities and have a nosey around and also Annie for organising the event, girl did good!

  • Crabtree & Evelyn Handy Tips E..

Last Friday I was lucky enough to be invited to the Crabtree and Evelyn Handy Tips event at my local store in Nottingham organised by Gemma who was planning it thanks to Jamie.

The main purpose of the event was to do with the Handy Tips Handed Down idea, where we were told to add a flower to the tree with tips that you follow (or should follow) that you have been told to do by your Mum, Grandmothers or any other older wiser person in your life that they swear by.

As well as this we got to mingle with other local bloggers, some were familiar faces and others were new ones. We were treated to sandwiches and nibbles provided by Pret next door which was dangerous, I couldn’t resist the pane au chocolat!

We were in turn treated to a hand scrub with amazing results, it was genuinely like someone else’s hand afterwards! Luckily they evened our hands up and sent us over to have a hand massage to follow.

It was good to see all the classic products that most people would associate Crabtree & Evelyn with along side the newer more modern packaged products. Especially the fathers day presents, I was drawn to that packaging.

After a bit of a natter and some group photos and funky polaroid photos we were sent on our way with some rather lovely gift bags! Blog posts to follow of the products I was lucky enough to receive.

Go over and check out the blogs of the girls that also went to this event.

I will definitely be taking a trip back to purchase a few items I’ve now got my eye on.

What would your handy tip be that someone has passed down to you?

  • Nottingham Light Night 2014

IMG_0175A few weeks ago me and Harvey decided to have a “date night” and head out for the Nottingham Light Night.

Harv met me from work and we treated ourselves to our favourite Indian in town, Tamatanga. Which of course was wonderful.

There was all sorts going on all over the place but the main area was at the Nottingham castle. It was £5 to get in and you could do all sorts! Plenty to see and do.

We then also ended up going to St Nics church on Maid Marion way where they had some musical entertainment and cakes and drinks for everyone that turned up. We were there for about an hour before heading off home.

We had a lovely night & Harv took loads of great photos that I thought I’d share with you. Have you ever been to the Nottingham Light Night before? I also went a few years ago and I do think personally there was more going on back then.

Are there any similar things near you?

  • #NottsBloggerMeet – 01.03.14

It really does seem like you can go ages without hearing about a blogger meet up and then all of a sudden a load crop up!

Last weekend I was lucky enough to attend another one, this time the layout was totally different again. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a meet up that has been the same/similar to another.

This meet up was held by Becka and Sophie and the main bulk of it was held at Zizzi in Nottingham. We were greeted by two tabled laid out beautifully with some rather impressive looking goodie bags on each seat. When I got there, there were already a few girls there so that made me a little bit more comfortable.  I sat down at the end of the first table and was surrounded by some lovely girls including Leah, Lora, Gemma, Mei, Becki, Ellie and Frankie, a few of which I have met before/have been at other meet ups I’ve been to.

Once everyone arrived we had a talk from Becky from Harlequin Cosmetics, a brand that is relatively small and is made in a family factory. At the moment the brand covers shower gels, body scrubs, soap bars and hand creams. We got to have a sniff of a handful of products and we were lucky enough to be treated to some samples of said products.

We had the choice to have a 3 course meal, which of course I took advantage of. While we were eating we were also visited by Charmed Ivy who let us browse the collection of jewellery they stock. There were some lovely little pieces all at really decent prices too.

Once the meal was over and we were all paid up we said our goodbyes and split into smaller groups to go for a bit of retail therapy. I didn’t find anything for myself really, I was trying to be good after my previous weeks spending spree. I then decided it was time to head off and said goodbye to the girls I’d gone round the shops with.

It was a nice day overall and it was really great to catch up with some of the girls I’ve met before and also getting to know the girls I hadn’t met before. I love meet ups that are local because you know that you can easily meet up with the people you’ve met again at a later date.

Thank you to Becka and Sophie for organising this meet up!

  • #MidsBlogMeet – 22.02.14

Last Saturday I ventured out all by myself to go to the MidsBlogMeet that had been organised by Emma and Kelly. I was a little bit nervous, going alone knowing that I wouldn’t know a single soul, but the thought that I might meet more local bloggers was what spurred me on. Although I had worried that it was just a mummy bloggers meetup my mind was put at ease by Emma who confirmed there would also be other lifestyle girls there.

When I got there I was warmly welcomed by Emma and Kelly and I then managed to introduce myself to Sarah and Iris at the bar as I was ordering the most incredible hot chocolate I’ve ever had. We were then joined by Cate, Lauren and a Different Kelly.

    2014-02-22 12.47.16

After introducing ourselves individually we then had another chance to mingle while a giveaway went on. This then lead on to the most incredible buffet set out by The Malt Cross.

Food was then followed by Sophie and Autumn from the nearby Body Shop coming in and giving us a run through of old an new products, and when I say new, not even out yet products. The thing that’s just come out that caught everyone’s eye was the hair chalks.

We then had a few more giveaways and the day started to wind down, I managed to get to chat to Amanda and get to know her too. It went so quickly I was sad I had to leave. We were then treated to some goodies including some scrummy sweets from Swizzels Matlow, which I was rather giddy about. A few Weleda samples, a baking/cooking recipe book and a chocolate mould provided by Iris & her Bakedbyme blog/shop.

We’d also been treated to a discount voucher for The Body Shop so a handful of us headed over there for some retail therapy. I’ll do a separate haul post with what I ended up getting.

I would love to thank Emma and Kelly for putting on such an amazing meetup, everyone was made to feel so welcome and I felt so comfortable and everyone there were so friendly. I look forward to the next one!

  • #EastMidsMeetUp – 30.11.13

Continuing on with my “this post is so late” run. At the end of November I went over to Derby for another meetup. Unfortunately I was so busy dashing about the shops that I didn’t even twig to take any photos. I didn’t want the event to go unmentioned because I am still super impressed with Emma or even anyone that plans any of these meetups, takes an awesome person to get them all together.

I did get a photo of all the amazing goodies so I thought I’d share that with you because Emma really excelled herself there. Look out for future reviews of some of the products!

The day mainly consisted of shopping. We all met up at 11 and split up into smaller groups after we’d picked our secret Santa names out of the bag. Secret Santa’s scare me but I hope Annie liked what I got her! Was hard to sneakily buy it when I was with her in the group. I managed to tag onto the nicest group of girls who were lovely to me and made me feel a lot more comfortable than I was because I was by myself and I didn’t know anyone there!

After a number of hours of shopping and a Starbucks break we all met up again and headed over to Fat Cats which was a short walk from the Westfield shopping centre. After a nice meal we had a fun lucky dip where we had the chance to win even more amazing goodies. I was incredibly lucky to have won some Sleep in rollers! Look out for a post featuring them.

When the evening started to calm down it was time to head home, I think people stayed on for cocktails and drinks but I gave that a miss because I was driving. I had a lovely day and met some really lovely bloggers that I hope to keep in touch with. It’s good to go to a more local meetup because you meet people that are so close to you that you’d never have known about.

Again, congratulations to Emma for planning it all, you’re a star.

  • #FABBbloggersManc Event – 06...

Better late than never right? A few weeks ago I took a solo drive down to Manchester for the latest installment of the FABB Bloggers Events. This is the second FABB event I’ve been to but the third event held by Ray and Tor.

After a beautiful scenic drive through some incredible little villages I arrived in Manchester, and proceeded to get completely lost. Note to self, you should not be left by yourself in strange towns. After a stressful walk round I ended up jumping into a taxi and finally finding my way to the event and meeting Joanna.

The event was held at 2022 NQ which was a little bit hidden away but was a great basement space. Inside there were little stalls for each brand that was there, the brands included, Tinned Bananas, Lavish AliceVita LiberataHealth Point Ltd., South Beach Swimwear, La Moda and Eldora Lashes. They’d all prepared a great set up and it was good to be able to get a taste of each brand that was there.

This event was a little bit different to the other events that I’ve been to that have been held by Ray and Tor, at the other ones it was more based round the brands doing a little talk about themselves with a bit of mingling. This event was more about the mingling I felt, you could speak to the brands and get to know a bit more about them and a few were giving out discount codes and we were lucky enough to get a few goodies from some of them. I think this was was good but could have been difficult if you weren’t very confident or were there by yourself.

I definitely think my favourite stalls were from Lavish Alice and South Beach Swimwear, they just had some great bits of clothing that I was drooling over and also depressing myself over the fact I haven’t got a holiday to be able to wear the Swimwear from South Beach.

After a few giveaways and a bit of mingling with new people it was time to head home, not before having some food at TGI fridays to prepare ourselves for the journey home.

Again, I’d like to thank Ray & Tor for organising it and well done for everything they did. Again they managed to put together and amazing goodie bag, my favourite treat being the £30 Espa voucher, which I keep meaning to spend.

  • An All American Launch – Mura..

Last Thursday I was invited along to the launch of the American brand Murad’s new counter in House of Fraser in Leeds. As Murad is an American brand it was only fitting that they celebrated it on the 4th July. You can already find Murad in London but they’re expanding up north.

On offer were skin consultations, using a special contraption that took a photo of your face and broke it down to view sun damage, redness and bacteria. Then it went into a 3D scan so you can see any fine lines, or dehydration lines and other observations on your complexion. It was terrifying to see how much sun damage I had, it wasn’t really bad but I never thought it would be as bad as it is. Sam (pictured) was a really nice lady that talked us through all this, if you pop in you should say hi, I’m sure she’ll be happy to help you out. You could also have a facial from one of the consultants, they have a menu of the options you could chose from. A few of the girls tried them out and they came out looking so fresh faced it was amazing, now I’m looking back I wish I’d had one.

After a bit of mingling, wine and cupcakes and a photo op/chat with Claire Cooper (Jacqui McQueen from Hollyoaks) we were taken for a talk from Zoe who is head of PR who talked us through what Murad is about and about Dr Murad himself. We were told that Murad is more of a Cosmesutical company and their main aim is results, so the products may seem expensive, but they’re all proven to work and have great results so it’s up to you to decide if it’s worth it. Hearing about Dr Murad was one of the most interesting parts. He is a certified dermatologist, that when seeing people not getting the results they wanted went about producing his own brand, he’s one of the only dermatologists in LA that doesn’t offer plastic surgery as a quick fix. He even started out testing the ingredients and products on himself, so from that his products aren’t and never have been tested on animals.

After the talk we were all lucky enough to be treated to a goodie bag, in mine I got the Summer Sun Essentials pack which after my consultation I was really happy about. The pack  contains an essential-C Cleanser, an Advanced Active Radiance Serum and Oil-free sunscreen broad spectrum SPF30, and also an Energizing Pomegranate Lip Protector SPF 15. All the products in the set are to help with reducing the appearance of sun spots and hyperpigmentation while protecting against sun damage. Perfect! I can’t wait to try all the products out and review them for you.

If you’re up in Leeds, or even in London and see a Murad counter, then you should definitely try it out, and with some great names supporting the brand, it’s definitely one to look into. Again, I just want to thank everyone at Murad that made the evening so enjoyable, and wish them luck with their new Leeds counter.
