A few weeks ago it was Mel’s birthday and in true girly style I got completely dressed up and headed out for drinks and a dance in Nottingham.

I decided to go for something a bit more than the usual smokey eye and took inspiration from the dress I wore (outfit post on that to come). I’m not a massive fan of how it photographed but I loved it in real life.

It’s nice to be a bit out the box with your makeup and I don’t get the opportunity to do so very often so I made the most of it for this occasion.

How do you feel about bringing out some colour when it comes to eye makeup?

  • #FOTD 6 – A Glittery Eye To S..

The other day I decided to actually wear some makeup and I also decided to play around a bit and introduce a product I was yet to use. I received the Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner as my secret Santa present and I am absolutely thrilled with it, just shows that whoever it was that was my secret Santa knows me quite well.

fotd6Now these aren’t the best photos to show it off but there is a glittery line there. I used my newish Urban Decay Naked 3 pallet for the main eye colours and then used the liner as a replacement from the standard black that I always use.

I stuck with the pink theme and used my old favourite blusher, Hervana from Benefit. And on my lips was just the Carmex moisture plus lip balm in Pink, I love that product, I have it in peach too and they feel so good on the lips but also do them good too.

This look divided the people closest to me, my Mum kindly told me I look like a fairy which I thought was quite nice, my Dad was kind enough to make an input and say it looked nice (as far as a Dads makeup opinion goes). But Harveys reaction was pretty harsh saying I look like a stripper! Well not in so many words but the sentence involved “dollar bills”, which I thought was pretty cruel, but we laughed it off and he did say it looked nice really, but made me worry a bit. I liked it but I think I would still do a black liner but then do the glitter over the top.

It’s not an everyday look but it’s always fun to play with makeup.

What do you think? How would you use the glitter liner?

  • #FOTD 5 – Benefit Groovy Kind..

Well hello there, long time no beauty post!

Today I thought I’d talk about one of the presents I got for Christmas that I’ve been loving using recently. This is one of Benefits gift sets full of lovely sample size products that cover almost every aspect of your makeup. I recently used the Benefit Groovy Kinda Love kit while I was in London visiting my sister for her birthday, it’s perfect for travelling. It does come over as a bit of a night time look but you can use the shadows as you please and don’t have to follow the instructions like I did. But I thought I would do for the purpose of showing off the kit to you.

The photos don’t do it justice really. I followed the instruction manual that comes with it, using Shimmer Down, the dark taupey gold colour all over the eyelid from lash line to crease. Tickle my ivory, the matte white colour to my brow bone as a highlight. Then using Guilt-y Pleasure, the gold colour all over the main eyelid. Finishing off with Kiss Me, I’m Tipsy. the shimmery brown colour in the crease, outer corner & under the lower lash line to add definition. I then used the mini They’re Real mascara after curling my lashes. I think I’m the only person in the world that really isn’t a fan of this mascara.

For the skin I used the Porefessional primer underneath my foundation to make it last longer and look smoother. I then used the blusher that comes in the set with is a mini duo of Dandelion, a blusher from Benefit that I didn’t already have and Gimme Fever which is a shimmery rose colour. To finish off using the kit I used the also famous Benetint lip and cheek tint on my cheeks a little bit but also to add colour to my lips. But I was unfortunately having a bad lip day so it didn’t sit very nicely in the cracks but I do usually love the product.

Have you used any of Benefits gift sets? Which other ones would you recommend?

  • FOTD – Recreated Wedding Make..

This is a wedding makeup look I did on my sister a few months ago for her best friends wedding. It was a lot of pressure and we had a few trial runs but on the day it turned out great and she looked beautiful. I’ve also tried to re-create the hair that she had done on the day too. I actually think with more attempts I might actually get it how I like it so I think I’ll be trying it more often. Obviously it looked a lot different on her because she has sorter curlier auburn hair.

Because they were all wearing very pale coloured dresses we decided to go a bit darker and smokier. I started with a base of Maybelline’s Colour Tattoo in Permanent Taupe, bringing it down along the outer edge of the bottom lash line. I then went over the lid with the colour Kalahari out of the Nars And God Created Woman Palette for a bit of shimmer. I applied some of MAC’s Corduroy into the crease but kept it quite rounded because me and my sister have different eye shapes.

I then used the Nars palette and used Alhambra as an inner corner highlight and bought it 3/4 of the way into the bottom lash line. As far as eyeshadow goes I then just used MAC’s Shroom as a brow bone highlight.

Because my sister isn’t as much of a fan of the black liner as I am I decided to use MAC’s Teddy eyeliner. I used it all around the waterline, top and bottom. I also smudged it down on the bottom lash with the taupe colour that was already there. I then did a line across the top of the top lash line. I have a feeling on the day I did one line of that and smudged it in a bit then drew another more definite line over the top. She had also been to MAC and had some false lashes applied before I did the makeup so her eyelashes looked more incredible than mine ever will with this look.

Finally, on the face we primed with Benefits Porefessional Primer, then used Nars Sheer Glow as her foundation because I feel that it gives you more coverage than you think you’d get with a product with sheer in the name. We used  Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Corrector just to cancel out any darkness under her eye, we then went over for extra coverage with Maybelline Age Rewind concealer, set it with Ben Nye’s Banana Powder, and covered any other spots with a concealer. After Trial and error we ended up lightly powdering her face with MAC’s skin finish. We added colour to her face by contouring with NYX Taupe and then bronzing her up with our mutual favourite Nars Laguna. To finish we used MAC’s Melba blush and highlighted with MAC’s Lightscapade. Her brows were filled in using the same ILAH Brows pallet that I use but I used the lighter brown and the darker brown colours from it which suited her nicely.

Below I’ve added a photo of the products used.

Hope you enjoyed this sort of post recreating makeup I’ve done. I have a few more planned so I hope you do. Have you ever had to do someone else’s makeup, was it stressful for you or just a bit of fun with a friend?

  • FOTD #4 – Another Brown Smoke..

Another day another brown smokey eye face of the day.

Although I like the full face, the close-up of the eyeshadow just makes me feel a little bit disappointed with the colours out of the pallet I used. I’ve been trying to use the pallet that my parents got me for Christmas last year because I’ve neglected it for too long. When I applied the shadows I really liked them, but the lid colour was glittery to start with and as you can see from the picture, it isn’t and that’s probably not even 15 minutes after applying it.

I think the pallet will be better for more interesting eye looks and would maybe work better if I wet them a little bit first if I want them to be more dramatic. In the meantime I will keep using them and I did like the overall look & the colour I used on the bottom lash line to smoke it out a bit.

I think my favourite part was the brown eyeliner, I’ve not used it before but I like how it looks with the brown shadows. A lot less harsh than the black liner that I usually wear. I actually dismissed this product when I got it in one of the Glossyboxes that I had subscribed to ages ago, so it’s good to go back and try it and like it.

It was only after taking the photos that I realised that I had completely forgotten any mascara! Luckily I have had my lashes tinted in recent weeks, but I still think it’s noticeable. Although I realised I had forgotten, I then continued to forget and spent the whole day not wearing any mascara.

I also realised how awful my eyebrows are at the moment. I’m not sure weather I should try and grow them out a little bit or what. They’re sort of at that in between stage.

Below I’ve put a photo & listed the products I used on my whole face.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Pore Minimising Primer

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector In Moonstone

    Make Up Forever HD Foundation

  • FOTD #3 – Birthday Face

    IMG_3056 eye-birthday-makeup-fotd

Birthdays are the perfect opportunity to go a bit more fancy with your makeup I think. And although I play around with my makeup all the time I was really happy with this makeup, despite still being a little bit spotty. This is an almost all MAC makeup look.

I’m really annoyed with myself but I can’t actually remember what foundation I used, but I was really happy with the coverage. I used MAC studio finish concealer on my spotty areas and Origins plantscription concealer under my eyes to try and hide a few of my flaws. I set it all with MAC mineralised skin finish in light -which I’m really loving at the moment. I contoured a little bit with my Doctor Hauschka bronzer duo, then popped a bit of MAC pink cult blusher over my cheeks. I highlighted with one of my favourite highlighters Watts Up! by Benefit, I love how intense the highlight is and how it doesn’t ruin the makeup underneath when you apply it.

On the eyes I used MAC constructivist paint pot, I used it all over the lid and slightly winged it out a bit to create a sort of smokey eye look. I put a bit of MAC mulch under my eye and lined the water line with MAC Teddy pencil. I used MAC blacktrack fluidline to do a winged eyeline, Cailyn 2-in-1 conditioning mascara on the top lashes and Clinique bottom lash mascara on the bottom lashes. To highlight the brow bone and inner corner of my eye I used Benefits high brow.

On the lips is a combination of MAC boldly bare lip pencil all over the lips then Nars orgasm lip gloss over the top. This is my favourite combination at the moment.

Eye makeup will forever be my favourite part of makeup.

Do you like making a bit more of an effort with your makeup on special occasions or do you usually stick with the same look?

  • FOTD #2 – FABBbloggersleeds M..

Foundation – MAC Studio Fix Fluid / Bronzer – Nars Laguna / Contour Bronzer – Makebelive

Blusher – MAC Legendary / Highlighter – MAC Soft & Gentle

Lid – MAC Painterly Paintpot / Crease –  MAC Corduroy

Waterline liner – Urban Decay 24/7 Perversion

Liner – Soap & Glory Supercat

Base – NYX Matte Lips (unknown colour) / Top – Rimmel Apocalips Celestial

This is the makeup I chose to wear for the FABBbloggersLeeds event. I chose to keep the base and blusher quite basic and not too much but went for a light eye with a defined crease with a bit of a play on the eyeliner flick that I always do, but in a way which I thought would be in keeping with the pattern on the dress that I wore. On the lips I went for a mix of colours, I’m not sure if the base one made any difference but I felt like putting a bit more of a moist colour over the top just because I struggle with really dry chapped lips as soon as anything goes near them!

Do you think you’d try the eyeliner look or is it a bit too much for yourself? I’d also love to hear about any eyeliner you can recommend to make the eyeliner design a bit stronger and easier to apply.

    Brow Tech To Go -Smashbox

Oh hello there abnormally long baby hair and spot mark.

Today’s makeup was testing out my new eye shadows. It was also trying to cover my stupid spot mark, but at least it’s finally not as big as it was. It’s quite a smoky look but I don’t think it’s too heavy not to be able to wear during the day and I’d definitely wear this to work. My eyebrows are looking rather thin in this image but I’m sure they don’t in real life, I’ve been filling them in with my new Smashbox brow tech to go, which has taken me a while to get used to but I think I’m finally getting the hang of it. You can use it to fill your eyebrows in properly or you can use it really lightly and just do light hair like strokes in the sparse areas of your brows.

Hope you like my first face of the day. I think when I do some different looks I’ll definitely put others up.
