  • Everyday FOTD – April 2014

[ Left – Right : The Body Shop Tea Tree Pore Minimiser Primer | MAC Mineralized Skin Finish Light | MAC Marilyn  Blush | MAC Mineralised Skinfinish Lightscapade | Lush Emotional Brilliance Translucent Face Powder | Origins Vitazing | Maybelline Fit Me Concealer | Benefit Gimme Brow | Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder  | Maybelline Big Eyes Mascara | Soap And Glory Supercat Liner ]

I have a confession I say this is my everyday fotd but in reality recently I’ve been rocking the bare faced look more often than not.

I’ve tried to go bare faced as much as possible to give my skin a bit of air. It’s been a bit of pain recently and I’ve not liked the look of the foundations/powders on my skin. The only combination I’ve been happy with when I have been reaching for my makeup stash has been Origins Vitazing as the base for a bit of extra colour and to try and smooth out the appearance of my skin tone. Especially after the crop of freckles appeared after being in the sun last time it was great weather. The tea tree primer from The Body Shop does a great job at keeping the base on as long as possible and helps keep spots at bay.

I use the Maybelline fit me concealer to make sure that any areas that need extra coverage  are sorted. I have quite bad dark circles under my eyes and scarring on my chin and forehead. This concealer is great for serious coverage with a natural look, not cakey at all. To set the face I use my Lush emotional brilliance translucent powder under my eyes and my MAC Mineralised Skinfinish in Light to keep the rest of my face in place.

I then use my Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting powder as a contour on my cheeks and MAC Mineralised Skinfinish in Lightscapade to highlight the top of my cheekbones. For an added bit of colour I’ve been reaching for my limited edition Marilyn which gives a nice natural matte pop too the cheeks.

For the eyes I’ve just been sticking with my always favourite Soap And Glory Super Cat Liner for a line and small cat flick and a flash of my current favourite mascara Maybelline Big Eyes. Then to frame my eyes I use a few strokes of Benefits GimmeBrow just to add an easy bit of colour to them.

Have you tried any of these products? I’d love to hear how you’ve got on with any of them.

  • Real Techniques Silicone Liner Brus..

I bought this brush a while ago, as a massive fan of  the Real Techniques brand and brushes as soon as I saw the Real Techniques Silicone liner brush I knew I had to have it.

It took me a while to find it or for it to be in stock but as soon as I found it I snapped it up. As a massive fan of eyeliner and a not so massive fan of brushes that lose their shape after a lot of uses. I have a few different brushes that I use for my gel liner, the one of choice most of the time is my Sigma E05 brush, it’s the one that’s kept it’s shape the best and washes easily.

When I saw this brush for the first time I was hoping that all my eyeliner prayers would be answered, I’d forever have clean sharp lines with no random shock splayed edges.

Unfortunately I have a love hate relationship with the Real Techniques silicone liner brush. I hate to say it, but it’s actually turned into my least favourite brush from the brand.

Yes, it’s good for the cleanness of the brush stroke. but you end up using quite a lot of product to cover the brush tip and I found it dried on really quickly, so it was really difficult to actually do more than a tiny proportion of your eye before having to go back into your product, again wasting more, which when said product is your MAC Blacktrack Fluidline can feel a bit of a kick in the teeth.

I personally don’t reach for this brush very often if at all, but I know loads of bloggers swear by it. I’d just say think about it, does the brush you’re already using really do that bad of a job?

Did anyone else find this and question the hype behind it?

  • SensatioNail Gel Nail Kit – H..

sensationails2[Items used: SensatioNail Gel Manicure Kit | Four Sided Nail Buffer & Polisher |

Liz Earle Super Balm | Tweezerman Mini Nail Rescue Set]

At the end of last year there was an offer on the SensatioNail gel nail kit at Boots. It was such a good offer I couldn’t resist, it looks like there is another offer on at the moment where you can get the kit and one colour with it for £45 online. The offer when I had it was two colours with it, today’s post is using Taupe Tulips for a perfect taupe colour that goes with anything in this in-between weather we’re having at the moment.

Step 1: Use a four sided buffer and follow steps as stated on each side.

Step 2: Clear any dirt or nail excess from under nail.

Step 3: Oil cuticles to soften them.

Step 4: Remove and push back cuticles.

Stage 5: Trim Cuticles (be VERY careful)

Stage 6: Use a lint free wipe and the gel cleanser both included in the kit to clean the nail from any surface residue.

Stage 7: Use gel primer included in kit on all nails and allow to air dry.

Stage 8: Apply a thin layer of gel base & top coat avoiding skin and cuticle. Cap the nail by running the polish brush along the nail tip.

Stage 9: Use the UV lamp to cure for 30 seconds, you will hear a high pitch beep to notify you when 30 seconds is up. The light will continue to stay on for a further 30 seconds.

Stage 10: Apply a thin layer of the colour gel polish, again avoiding the cuticle and skin and capping the nail. Use the UV lamp again to cure for the full 60 seconds that the lamp stays on. Apply a second layer and place under lamp again for 60 seconds.

Stage 11: Repeat step 8 by using the gel base and top coat and cure with lamp for another 30 seconds.

Stage 12: Finish by removing the oily moisture layer by using the gel cleanser and lint free wipes again.

And that’s it! I can’t begin to tell you how great it is to be able to go out and use your hands as soon as you’ve painted them, that’s the thing I hate the most about painting my nails. The nails are meant to last up to two weeks, as I type this they have lasted completely through one week, I have no doubts it will last the two weeks if not longer, I think they do break it will be round the edges on the nails next to the skin.

I have a second colour in my kit in Sugar Plum, if you would like to see that in action let me know, if you’d also like to see the removal process too then I will do a secondary post on that.

  • Review – Garnier Micellar Cle..

Yet again this is a totally blogger hyped product that I’ve fallen for.

I’ve obviously also tried the Bioderma, and the Loreal Micellar water and I’m still not 100% sure about the hype other than they’re hyped up waters. But actually, saying that, I would continue to buy micellar waters in the future. There’s nothing better than freshening you face up with it first thing in the morning or throughout the day.

Now, on to this actual product. When I posted that I’d purchased this along with a few other Garnier products (reviews to come) on Instagram, Lianne suggested that I use the micellar water by itself before I use the eye makeup remover. So I did!

Overall I would say it is better than any other micellar water at removing makeup, but it still doesn’t give 100%. I know that’s probably a lot to ask for from any product. I think the combination of eye makeup remover, micellar water and toner is the perfect one to get all the makeup off that you can and then a proper cleanse will finish it off completely, removing everything. I also think that the combination of all those products from Garnier is perfect for it.

Overall, I’d say yes it’s another micellar water, but I like it and the amount you get in a bottle is amazing, lasts longer than the Loreal one and is at a snip of the price of Bioderma.

Long and short of it is,  this is my favourite micellar water and if you want one, then go for this one! ha.

  • Review – Maybelline Baby Lips..

Another day another bad photo. This time I have my urge to use the product to blame for this one. I was at Harvey’s mums house and I really wanted to use it so I made sure to snap it before I did.

I know I’m later than late on this hype but I’ve had this product for a while now. When I bought this myself they’d been out for a while in the UK.

I’d read/heard mixed things about the Maybelline baby lips before purchasing the Cherry Me one. One thing that stuck was that it was no better than just a basic lip balm, but when I saw it in the coloured variety I knew I had to purchase one.

I suffer with really dry lips so I struggle with lipsticks on an almost daily occurrence. Hence why I thought this would be a perfect in between, it gives me a good amount of colour and it also nourishes my lips at the same time, so win win for me.

It’s perfect for day to day wear or even as a soft colour for nights out.

Below is a swatch of it on my lips.

Have you tried the Maybelline baby lips and what do you think of them, over hyped? Are there any other coloured ones that I should keep my eye out for?

  • TAG : Blog Your Heart Out.

    Thanks for the tag Lauren!

Blog your heart out is just answering 5 questions then tagging 5 other bloggers.

    1. Who/what encouraged you to start blogging?

I don’t think anyone encouraged me but my friend Grace from work had a fashion blog that I loved, and it was just reading that and then finding other bloggers that made me want to do it myself.

    2. How did you choose what topics to blog about?

I originally started with beauty posts purely because I wanted to share with people my opinions on things I’d bought. I then just expanded from there because I wanted to talk about all sorts of things.

    3. What is something most people don’t know about you?

I don’t really know, I don’t have many secrets. I’m sure there’s at least a few people that know different things about me.

    4. What three words describe your style?

    Comfortable, personal, varied.

    5. What do you love to do when you are not blogging?

When I’m not blogging I’m either with friends, with Harvey, visiting family or at the gym/running. I live a rather ordinary life and can’t think of anything better than being around the people you love.

  • New Body Mission – Month One

    2013-11-25 19.09.08

So, one month in! First post is here.

I can’t believe how fast its gone, it’s still been a challenge though!

Last week I pumped up the fitness and did Dancing on Monday then went to the gym on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night. And I think you’ll see that it was definitely worth it! Along with everything else I’ve done.

I’ve still been counting calories, eating a bit better. Making sure I don’t eat out at work too often but not stopping myself from having treats. I’ve now gone 3 months since I drank Coca-Cola, but I have still had the odd fizzy drink with meals out because I never know what to have instead, its usually a lemonade if I do have a fizzy drink. I’m back from London now so I’m going to try and go through February without having any fizzy drinks what so ever! That should be a good challenge.

Lets just get to the details shall we…. can we please just take a  moment to acknowledge the first number of my weight. 8!!!!! I NEVER thought I’d get my weight to say an 8 again! I still can’t believe it myself. I know I weighed myself a few days early but I know that after my trip to London I’d definitely show for my over indulgence! I’m not going to weigh myself again for two weeks I think, I don’t want my weight now to dishearten me. Although it may spur me on instead.

And it’s not just the weight loss that’s amazing me, I’ve lost in measurements too! And I’ve even compared them to when I started properly with the fitness and healthy lifestyle back in November last year, the difference is astonishing. I’m still not ready to show photos but I am so proud of myself, I keep looking at the comparison since November and I still can’t believe that’s what I looked like and I look so different now. Although I feel like I may have lost my photos from January, which is a bit of a bastard. I’m also not sure whats going on with the Fat/Muscle/Water percentages, pretty sure they can’t be right.

  • 100th Post Giveaway! – CLOSED

It’s that time again! Giveaway time!

I’m not making these a regular thing but I thought I would really love to acknowledge this “milestone”. It may not seem a lot to others, and really it doesn’t seem humongous to me either, but I’m still really proud of myself for getting to this point.

On and off I’ve blogged for over a year and a half. Thus resulting in this, my 100th post!

I’m looking forward to many more posts to come, and hopefully it won’t take me as long when I try and be more consistent with my posts.

Now onto the giveaway. I am giving away two prizes, that personally, I think are awesome prizes!

First up we have a Hydraluron Moisture Boosting Mask. I have been using the normal Hydraluron for the past few months and I’ve only recently just used it up which I’m truly distressed about, it’s an awesome product! I haven’t tried the mask but if it lives up to the normal product, you won’t be disappointed.

Next up is a little set of three trial sizes of the Hydraluron, Snoxin and Nanoblur products. I haven’t tried the other two either but I think this is a great prize for you to test each of them out and see how you like them before you go out and spend so much money on the products.

There will be two winners, one for each prize. For your chance to win then just follow the Rafflecopter instructions below. This is a UK only giveaway & any competition accounts that have been set up for purely that reason won’t win.

Good luck to all that enter!

  • Belated Boxing Day Eye – MAC ..

boxingday_eyePainterly Paint PotMAC Satin TaupeMAC ShroomMAC WedgeMAC Teddy EyelinerDerma V10 Volume & Length MascaraMaybelline The Falsies MascaraClinique Bottom Lash Mascara

This post is belated in a number of ways, it’s belated because it’s over a month later from when I took this photo and it’s belated because instead of seeing the family for the second day in a row we decided to go over to Loughborough on the day after Boxing Day.

I went for a bit of a smokey eye using minimal products. Although writing them out makes it look like there’s a lot, and it’s made me realise how much MAC I actually used. I think I used my pallet that I have because I’d got my new Naked 3 Pallet and another Benefit one for Christmas but I hadn’t yet taken photos of them! First world blogger problems and all that!

I started with a base with my MAC painterly paint pot, I find this helps any heavy looks stick a bit better. I then ran my Teddy eyeliner along the lash line and smudged it in a bit. I followed this by sweeping some Satin Taupe all over my lids and over the top of the eyeliner. I then went on to blend some Wedge into the crease of my eye to blur it out a bit, topping that off with some more Teddy eyeliner along the lash line again smudging it out a little bit and running it along the outer 3rd of my bottom lash line. To brighten up to look and my eyes a little bit I put some Shroom in the corner of my eye bringing it along the inside of my bottom lash line too.

For lashes I had been loving the combination of my Derma V10 mascara with the Maybelline Falsies one on top for added volume and thickness because I have pretty pants eyelashes. Finishing the whole look off with some of my favourite Clinique bottom lash mascara, which I really should get a new one of.
